Teacher Training Program Director
Raenel began studying and practicing Hatha Yoga in 1997 and began to teach in the Iyengar Tradition in 1998. She has principally studied and undertaken teacher training under the guidance of Val Paape of Yoga North in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with whom she studied for four years. She has also studied with and received teacher training from senior Iyengar Yoga teachers including Robin Cantor, Shirley Daventry-French, Sherry Berkowitz, Ramanand Patel and Dr. Geeta S. Iyengar.
Her teachings focus on refining alignment and discovering the balance between action and receptivity, which enables freedom of breath and stillness of mind. Her classes, which are suitable and challenging for students of all levels, range in scope from dynamic to restorative. Through an energetic and intuitive approach, she focuses on going deeper into the postures as well as into the subtle awareness of Self.
Her extensive background in classical ballet and athletics has fostered a unique awareness as well as a deep understanding of physical mobilization. In 1994, Raenel pursued certification in Clinical Herbal Medicine, earned her certificate in Reflexology and is a certified Reflexology teacher. In 1996, she certified as a Level III Reiki Master and certified as a Level I Therapeutic Touch Practitioner. Her extensive training and ability to communicate her knowledge to the needs of each individual provides her students with a strong and wholistic understanding of the postures and how the postures bring benefit to their overall health and lifestyle.
Raenel has taught many workshops including “Introduction to Yoga”, “Developing a Home Practice”, “Introduction to the Use of Props” as well as led many Sadhana series. She developed workshops entitled “Introduction to Pranayama” and “The Anatomy of Breath”. She has designed the course curriculum for her 500-Hour Teacher Training Program which meets and exceeds the guidelines and standards of Yoga Alliance for Certification and Continuing Education.
