500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program Overview
September 2008 - June 2009
Designed for current and aspiring Yoga teachers, and serious students who wish to deepen their practice, this certificate program integrates the philosophical, theoretical and practical studies of traditional Hatha yoga into a rich and comprehensive whole. The course curriculum is designed to deepen postural proficiency, introduce Ayurvedic principles, and discuss traditional yogic philosophies in a contemporary context. The program teaches solid teaching skills and methods, postural analysis, sequencing principles, along with pre-natal, therapeutic and restorative applications.
The course curriculum meets and exceeds the 500-Hour curriculum requirements and training standards set out by the Yoga Alliance and is distributed within three modules. All three modules seamlessly integrate with one another in a logical progression forming a complete and comprehensive training program. All three modules plus the practicum hours must be completed to qualify for graduation from the program. This is an intensive program requiring great commitment to study and practice.

Module 1
Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle
Begins September 2008
This 10-Week module is an immersion in classical and contemporary Hatha Yoga practices and philosophies. Emphasis in this module is placed on the development of individual personal asana practice, the study of the classical and contemporary Yogic literature and introduces Ayurvedic principles related to the practice of Yoga.
The written component if this module consists of written work to be produced in order to articulate individual perspectives, understanding and interpretation of the material covered. The accompanying journal component is an opportunity to record experiences that can later be reflected and drawn upon.

This 10-week module places emphasis on the theoretical and practical study of human anatomy and physiology and how it relates to the practice of Asana. A familiarity of anatomical terminology is developed through a combination of class lectures and individual research. Subtle anatomy from the Yogic and Ayurvedic perspectives are explored.

Teaching Methodology
Begins February 2009
This 20-Week module develops strong teaching skills and methods through individual research and collective study. Understanding of the mechanical and physiological relationships between the postures is developed along with instructional vocabulary and sequencing principles from which a variety of class structures can be built.
This module covers principles of effective teaching including lesson planning, class organization and demonstration. Students develop skills in verbal instruction, principles of manual adjustment, and ways to effectively use language, vocal intonation and voice modulation. The final segment of this module focuses on peer teaching and feedback.

Work Study Preparation
60 Hours
The practicum portion of the training program begins following the completion of Module 1 and involves a combination of class observations, class assists, along with individual written and practical assessments followed by a 5-month paid teaching placement. Student Teachers will learn of various ways to promote themselves as teachers and take the steps needed to administrate a class. The practicum is intended to develop sharp observational and teaching skills, critical and analytical thinking, confidence in assisting students and to refine the delivery of class instruction.
